Kathmandu: Indian Army Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi has now become the General of Nepal also. Don't be surprised, because Nepali Army has awarded the “honorary title of General” to Indian Army Chief Upendra Dwivedi. Actually General Upendra Dwivedi is on a tour of Nepal these days. On Friday, he paid a courtesy call on Nepal's Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli at the Prime Minister's Office located in Singh Darbar. According to a statement from Nepal Army, General Dwivedi also paid a courtesy call on Defense Minister Manvir Rai at the Defense Ministry on Friday.
According to Nepal's Prime Minister's Secretariat, on this occasion, Oli expressed happiness over the continuation of the tradition between Nepal and India of conferring the honorary rank of Army General on each other's army chiefs. Oli also stressed the need to further expand cooperation and relations between the two countries. General Dwivedi said that he felt proud and fortunate to become the Honorary General of Nepal Army and expressed confidence that he would make every possible effort to further expand bilateral relations.
President of Nepal honored with the title of General
The Indian Army chief was conferred the honorary rank of General of the Nepal Army by President Ramchandra Paudel on Thursday at Rashtrapati Bhavan Sheetal Niwas. General Dwivedi, leading a five-member delegation, arrived in Nepal on Wednesday on a five-day official visit at the invitation of his Nepali counterpart Sigdel. On Thursday, General Dwivedi met his Nepali counterpart General Ashok Kumar Sigdel and discussed matters of mutual interest. (Language)
