US Presidential Election: How presidential election is conducted in America, know the process – Top News Bulletin

Washington: Voting will be held for the presidential election in America on November 5. This time, former President Donald Trump is contesting from the Republican Party and Vice President Kamala Harris from the Democratic Party. Now only 2 days are left for the American elections. Let us know how the presidential election is conducted in America and what is its entire process?

Let us tell you that every year in America, presidential elections are held on the first Tuesday of November. Which is falling on 5th November this time. By the way, the process of American elections starts about one and a half years in advance.

Tenure

The tenure of the President in America is 4 years. A person can be President only a maximum of two times.

In America, the President is called POTUS. Which is the short form of President of the United States of America.

The process of US presidential election is completed in 5 stages-

  1. Primaries and caucuses
  2. National Convention
  3. general election
  4. electoral college
  5. swearing in

Primaries and caucuses

National Convention

In this, there is a debate on an open platform between the presidential candidates selected from the Republican and Democratic parties. About 4 national conventions are organized. This gives an idea of the mood of the public and the mood of the country as to which party's candidate it wants to elect as its President.

general election

The next process is to select electors. The greater the population of a state, the more electors are sent by the general public. The rule of winner takes all applies in this. It is on 5th November. This is the most important phase of the presidential election. It becomes almost clear who will become the next President from the party which gets more electors.

What is the rule for choosing electors?

For example, if there are 30 electors in an American state… then the party whose 16 electors win, the remaining 14 electors are also considered to have won. In this way, the party which has won 16 electors will now be considered as having won all 30 electors. This is called the rule of winner takes all. In this way 538 electors are selected from the entire country. The party that wins the Presidential election needs at least 270 electors to win.

electoral college

Later, these electors cast their votes for the President and Vice President in the month of December. It is called Electoral College. The US Congress counts the votes of the electors in January. In this, the candidate securing more votes is declared the winner. Later on January 20, the swearing-in ceremony of the new President takes place. It is known as Inauguration Day in America. After this the President assumes his official position and responsibilities in the White House.
