New York: Presidential elections are to be held in America on November 5. But even before that, crores of voters have completed the process of donating their votes under a special process. In fact, this time, 42 Broadway in New York is an important destination in the presidential elections, where the office of the Election Board is located. Executive Director Michael Ryan and his deputy Vincent Ignizio are particularly excited about the number of votes cast in New York ahead of the voting date. Under the early voting system, about 1,40,000 people used their franchise on the first day in New York.
“We don't want to pat ourselves on the back, but we're very excited about it,” Ryan said. “New York has already set a record for early voting, and voting is still going on.” Crores of voters in various states of America have cast their votes even before the voting date (November 5). According to data from the University of Florida's 'Election Lab Tracker', more than 6.8 crore Americans have exercised their franchise. Voters across the United States are taking advantage of the convenience of early voting, whether through mail ballots or by going to polling stations.
What is early voting system?
Early voting system frees voters from the hassles of inclement weather, long queues at polling stations, not being able to vote due to work commitments or changes in personal schedules on election day. Ryan believes that several factors played a role in ensuring a positive trend towards early voting, at least in New York City. He said, “Less than 100 polling stations were set up for early voting in 2020. This year the number is almost 50 percent more than that.” A voting center offering early voting has been set up at John Jay College in the Manhattan area of New York City. A large number of voters are arriving here to exercise their franchise even before the election date on November 5.
Voting enthusiasm is visible among the people
There is huge enthusiasm among voters in early voting. Center coordinator Suzanne believes that a very positive trend is being seen towards the early voting process. He said, “We are busy in the voting process. We are ensuring that every voter who casts his vote here gets all the necessary assistance. People are very excited about the facility of early voting.” “I like this kind of flexible system,” said a voter who came to cast his vote at John Jay College. I don't want to waste my vote just because I won't be available on Tuesday. This is a critical time for the country and we cannot afford not to vote for the person who will lead us. (Language)
