South Korea's weather agency said 20 centimeters of snow fell in areas north and surrounding Seoul. According to the agency, it was the worst snow storm to hit Seoul in 52 years. The storm that hit Seoul on November 28, 1972 resulted in 12 centimeters of snow.
Most all parts of South Korea are affected
This snow storm engulfed most parts of the country. The central, eastern and south-western regions of the country received about 10 to 23 cm of snowfall. At least 220 flights were canceled or delayed at airports across the country. Authorities ordered about 90 boats to remain in port. Snow accumulation on roads in Seoul slowed traffic in the morning while emergency workers across the country worked to clear fallen trees, signs and other safety risks. The weather agency said that snowfall will continue in most parts of the country till Thursday afternoon. (AP)
