The party ruling in Botswana lost the elections after 58 years, know the reason – Top News Bulletin

Gaborone (Botswana): There is news of major upsets in Botswana elections. Here the party which has been in power for 58 years has lost the elections. This time people have voted for change in this country. Botswana President Mogwetsi Masisi has accepted his defeat after the setback in the general elections on Friday. With this, the 58-year-old rule of the ruling party, which was in power since independence from Britain in 1966, ended.

Let us tell you that Masisi accepted his defeat even before the final results were declared. According to preliminary results, his 'Botswana Democratic Party' (BDP) is in fourth place in the parliamentary elections. Duma Boko has become the preferred candidate to become president of the southern African country of Botswana, with the main opposition party Umbrella for Democratic Change taking a strong lead in early results.

Aunt called Boko

President Masisi said that he had called Boko to inform him that he was accepting defeat. He said Boko is now effectively the elected president. The final results are likely to be declared after Friday, but there is no way for the BDP to get a majority. “I accept defeat in the election,” Masisi said at a press conference on Friday morning, two days after the vote. I am proud of our democratic processes. I wanted a second term, but I will step down honorably and participate in a smooth transition process,” Masisi said. “I look forward to attending the upcoming swearing-in ceremony and cheering on my successor.” I will support him.
