Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced plans to broaden Russia's rules on the use of its nuclear weapons, AFP news agency reports. This would allow Russia to launch a nuclear response in the event of a major air attack.
Vladimir Putin has said that if any non-nuclear power attacks Russia with the support of a nuclear power, it will be seen as their joint attack on the Russian Federation. Putin had said that allowing Ukraine to use weapons supplied by Western countries to attack Russia would mean that a war is going on between Russia and NATO.

Russia's nuclear doctrine until now was that it could use atomic bombs in response to the use of nuclear and other types of weapons against itself and its allies. However, the revised version describes the conditions for the use of nuclear weapons in more detail.
