New Delhi: Duma Boka, who became the new President of Botswana by ousting the party that was in power for 58 years, has become the focal point of discussion all over the world. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday congratulated Duma Boko on being elected President of Botswana and wished him a successful tenure. The Prime Minister also said he was keen to work closely with Boko to further strengthen bilateral relations.
PM Modi wrote on the social media platform 'X', “Congratulations on your election as President of Botswana. Best wishes for your successful tenure.” Prime Minister Modi said he looked forward to working closely with Boko to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries. President of the 'Umbrella for Democratic Change' (UDC) UDC's candidate Duma Boko has been declared the sixth President of Botswana.
Former President accepted defeat
Even before the final results were declared in Botswana, outgoing President Mokgweetsi Masisi had accepted his defeat. He had called Duma Boko the same day and congratulated him. Masisi had been in power since gaining independence from Britain in 1966. With this defeat his party's 58-year-old rule ended. (Language)
