PM Narendra Modi Guyana Visit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has created history by visiting Guyana for the first time as an Indian Prime Minister in 56 years. When PM Modi reached Georgetown on Wednesday, he was given a grand welcome by Guyana President Mohammed Irfan Ali, Prime Minister Mark Anthony Phillips and dozens of cabinet ministers. PM Modi has also addressed a special session of the Parliament of Guyana. During this, he said that your every effort to strengthen democracy in Guyana is strengthening the development of the world.
The relationship between India and Guyana is full of intimacy
Addressing a special session of the Parliament of Guyana, PM Modi said, “The relationship between India and Guyana is very deep, it is a relationship of soil, sweat and hard work. About 180 years ago, an Indian came to the land of Guyana and after that In both times of joy and sorrow, the relationship between India and Guyana has been full of intimacy.”

PM Modi remembered the old days
In his address, PM Modi said, “24 years ago, as a curiosity, I got the opportunity to come to this beautiful country. Usually people like to go to countries where there is pomp and glitz, but I felt the heritage of Guyana. And the history had to be understood. Even today you will find many people in Guyana who will remember my meeting there. There are many memories associated with my then journey.”
India and Guyana saw similar struggles
Addressing a special session of the Parliament of Guyana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “In the last 200-250 years, India and Guyana have seen the same slavery, have seen the same struggle. During the freedom struggle, so many people have died here- Sacrificed their lives there. Today both the countries are strengthening democracy in the world. Therefore, in the Parliament of Guyana, I am congratulating all of you on behalf of the 140 crore people of India.”
