Know why Russia changed its nuclear policy? – Top News Bulletin

Moscow: The war between Russia and Ukraine continues. Amidst the war, Russia said on Thursday that the purpose of the change in its nuclear doctrine is to warn Ukraine's Western allies against helping them attack Russia. Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for the Russian President's Office and Residence, Kremlin, told reporters that the amendments in the document announced by President Vladimir Putin are a warning sign to those countries that if they join in the attack on our country (not necessarily with nuclear weapons), they will have to suffer the consequences.

Putin warned

In a stern and fresh warning to the West, President Putin on Wednesday said that any nation launching a conventional attack on Russia with the support of a nuclear weapon would be treated as a joint attack on the country. The threat, outlined in a revision of Moscow's nuclear doctrine, was apparently aimed at discouraging the West from allowing Ukraine to attack Russia with long-range weapons.

Russia made its stand clear

Russian President Vladimir Putin has insisted Russia could use nuclear weapons in response to a conventional attack that poses a “serious threat to our sovereignty.” Russia is making slow but unrelenting gains in Ukraine as the war enters its third year. Earlier this month, Putin warned the United States and other NATO allies that allowing Ukraine to use long-range weapons obtained from the West to attack Russian territory would draw Russia and NATO into a direct conflict.
