India Summons Canadian High Commissioner: India has summoned Canada's Deputy High Commissioner. Canada's Deputy High Commissioner Stewart Wheeler will reach the Foreign Ministry office shortly. Canada has linked the Indian High Commissioner and diplomats as 'persons of interest' in the investigation into the Hardeep Singh Nijjar murder case, a move India has openly criticized and warned as 'absurd allegations'.
India has also indicated that this move by the Trudeau government may be part of an attempt to tarnish India's image. The Ministry of External Affairs has said that Trudeau has tried to take political advantage in the past also. The ministry has also given the example of his 2018 visit to India, where he tried to do vote bank politics.
Canada made allegations
The Canadian government had accused India of Nijjar's murder and since then there has been tension between the two countries. In September 2023, Trudeau made serious allegations against India alleging Indian agents were involved in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India had clearly termed such allegations as 'motivated'.
