United Nations: India has confounded the world's diplomatic experts by voting against Israel on a resolution in the United Nations. In this resolution brought against Israel in the United Nations, the weight was seen standing with Palestine. Not only this, India voted in favor of Palestine and against Israel. This tremendous diplomacy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has surprised the whole world. The whole world is wondering whether this is the same India which first called PM Benjamin Netanyahu after the attack on Israel on October 7, 2023 and not only assured him of fully standing with Israel, but also Also stood with Netanyahu. Earlier, many resolutions were brought against Israel in the United Nations, but India then either voted in favor of Israel or abstained from the voting process. But this time India was seen openly standing with Palestine in voting against Israel.
This stance of India has confused even the world's leading diplomats. The world is wondering what is the diplomacy of PM Modi through which he manages to win over both the parties and the opposition. This charismatic leadership of Prime Minister Modi is discussed everywhere. The special thing is that despite standing in favor of Palestine on this proposal, Israel did not express any displeasure with India. Let us now tell you what is actually the whole matter?
This proposal was brought in UN against Israel
In the United Nations General Assembly, India voted against Israel and in favor of the UNGA resolution, which calls for Israel to withdraw from East Jerusalem and other Palestinian territories occupied since 1967. At the same time, the call to achieve comprehensive, just and lasting peace in West Asia has been reiterated. The draft resolution on 'Peaceful solution to the question of Palestine' presented by Senegal was accepted by an overwhelming majority in the 193-member General Assembly on Tuesday. India was among the 157 countries that voted in favor of it.
These countries voted in favor of Israel and against the UN
Eight UNGA member states – Argentina, Hungary, Israel, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea and the United States – voted against the UNGA resolution and in favor of Israel. Cameroon, Czechia, Ecuador, Georgia, Paraguay, Ukraine and Uruguay abstained. The resolution, adopted orally as amended, calls for “the achievement without delay of a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in West Asia” on the basis of relevant United Nations resolutions and an end to the Israeli occupation that began in 1967, including East Jerusalem. The call was repeated.
What is the demand of the proposal?
Gaza Strip part of Palestine
The resolution also stressed that the Gaza Strip is an integral part of the Palestinian territories occupied in 1967 and that it “reaffirms the vision of a two-state solution, in which the Gaza Strip would be part of Palestine.” The need to immediately and completely stop all acts of violence and incitement, including military attacks, destruction and terrorist acts, is stressed. India voted in favor of another resolution in the General Assembly demanding that Israel withdraw from the occupied Syrian Golan in implementation of relevant Security Council resolutions and return to the June 1967 border lines.
The Golan Heights is a rocky plateau in south-western Syria, about 60 kilometers south of Damascus (the capital of Syria). It is bordered by the Yarmouk River to the south and the Sea of Galilee to the west. The United Nations considers this area part of Syria. However, during the Six-Day War in 1967, Israel captured the Golan Heights. 97 votes were cast in favor of this proposal while eight voted against it, while 64 countries including Australia, Canada, Israel, Britain and America abstained from voting.
