Dubai/Beirut: Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has made a big claim. He says that he had warned Hezbollah leader Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah a few days before he was killed in the Israeli attack. He had already told Nasrallah that if he did not leave Lebanon Israel would soon kill him. But Nasrallah took Khamenei's words lightly. Khamenei has claimed that he had warned Nasrallah to flee Lebanon as soon as he received input that he was planning to kill him. But he did not run away and was killed.
According to three sources in Iran, Khamenei is now extremely concerned about Israeli infiltration of senior positions in the government ranks in Tehran. He is also afraid of his death due to this. Immediately after the pagers attack on Hezbollah on September 17, Khamenei sent a message through an emissary to Hezbollah Secretary General Nasrallah, requesting him to immediately leave Lebanon and go to Iran. In his message, Khamenei cited intelligence reports that Israel had agents inside Hezbollah. According to Reuters, Israel is planning to kill him (Nasrallah).
Iran's messenger was also killed along with Nasrallah.
The Iranian who delivered the message to Nasrallah was reportedly Brigadier General Abbas Nilforoushan, a senior commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, who was with Nasrallah in his bunker. He was also hit by Israeli bombs and killed. A senior Iranian official said Khamenei had been in a safe place inside Iran since Saturday. He personally ordered the firing of approximately 200 missiles at Israel on 01 October. The Revolutionary Guards said in a statement that the attack was retaliation for the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran in July along with Nasrallah and Nilforoshan and Israeli attacks on Lebanon. However, Israel has not yet claimed responsibility for the death of Ismail Haniya alias Haniyeh. (Reuters)
