Gaza health authorities said an Israeli airstrike on a group of police at a school housing displaced Palestinians killed at least 11 people on Sunday, while the military said it had targeted a Hamas command center.
The school had a Hamas police outpost, another Gaza health official said on condition of anonymity.
The Israeli military said its air force had attacked a Hamas command center at the Safad school.
“The Israeli Air Force targeted Hamas terrorists operating inside a command and control center located inside the area that formerly served as the Safad school in Gaza City,” the military said in a statement.
Since then, the Israeli military has been relentlessly bombarding the Gaza Strip from the air, sea and land, killing at least 40,738 people so far, according to the territory's Health Ministry.
According to the UN, most of the dead are women and children.
