Islamabad: Top military officers of Pakistan and Russia have met. During the meeting, both the countries resolved to strengthen their cooperation in security and defense sectors. Russian Deputy Defense Minister Colonel General Alexander V Fomin has met separately with the chiefs of Pakistan's three services to discuss ways to enhance defense ties.
Defense and security cooperation will get a boost
A statement issued by the Pakistan Army's media wing 'Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR)' said that during the meeting with Army Chief General Asim Munir, both sides discussed issues of regional security and mutual interests, including: General Munir reiterated Pakistan's commitment to strengthening traditional defense ties with Russia. “The meeting also included joint military exercises and technical support for PAF equipment,” the statement said. New ways to strengthen existing relations were also discussed.
Pakistan wants to become a member of BRICS
Meanwhile, let us also tell here that Pakistan seems to be eager to become a member country of BRICS. Pakistan has appealed to Russia to make it a part of the group. In this regard, Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and Russian Federation Council Chairman Valentiny Matvienko held a meeting in which there was talk about getting entry into BRICS.
