Batrun: The Israeli Navy has captured a top commander of Hezbollah in northern Lebanon. An Israeli Army official gave this information on Saturday. The official said without naming the detained person that the action took place in the city of Batroun in northern Lebanon. Earlier on Saturday, Lebanese officials said they were investigating whether Israel had captured a Lebanese sea captain who was taken away by a group of armed men who landed on the coast of Batrun on Friday. “The captured top member has been transferred to Israeli territory and is currently being interrogated,” the official said.
investigation being conducted
In fact, two Lebanese army officers said that a navy team landed in Batrun, north of Beirut, and kidnapped a Lebanese citizen. Neither the identity of the man was released nor whether he was believed to be affiliated with the Lebanese Hezbollah group. He did not confirm whether the armed men were Israeli forces. Lebanese officials said the captain may have ties to Hezbollah. Officials said an investigation was underway to determine whether the man was affiliated with Hezbollah or working for an Israeli spy agency and that an Israeli force had come to rescue him.
Will complain to the United Nations Security Council
After Israel gave public information about this operation, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati asked the Lebanese Foreign Minister to file a complaint against Israel in the United Nations Security Council. Let us tell you that even before this, Israel has in the past conducted commando operations inside Lebanon to kidnap or kill Hezbollah and Palestinian officials. Candice Ardeel, a spokesperson for the UN peacekeeping force deployed in southern Lebanon, denied allegations by some local journalists, who said that the peacekeepers helped the landing force in the operation.
