Bangladesh: Lawyer not found, now Chinmay Krishna Das's bail hearing will be held after a month – Top News Bulletin

Dhaka: Hindu saint Chinmoy Krishna Das failed to get any relief from a Bangladesh court on Tuesday as no lawyer was available to represent him as the hearing on his bail plea was adjourned by a month. This information has been received from media reports. 'BDnews24.com' quoted Chittagong Metropolitan Police's ADC (Prosecution) Mofizur Rahman as saying that after the preliminary hearing on the bail plea on Tuesday, the judge fixed January 2 for the next hearing. Now only after a month it will be known whether Das will get bail in the treason case registered against him or not.

No lawyer appeared for Chinmay

The bail plea of Chinmay Krishna Das was to be heard in the court of Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Saiful Islam on Tuesday but no lawyer appeared on behalf of Chinmay, the report said. Tight security arrangements were made in the Chittagong court complex in view of the hearing on the bail plea and security officials from various forces were deployed in large numbers. Das was not brought to court for the hearing.

Was arrested from Dhaka airport

Das, spokesperson of Bangladesh-based Sanatani Jagran Jot, was arrested on November 25 from Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on charges of sedition. On November 26, a Chittagong court refused bail and sent him to jail, following which his supporters protested. A lawyer was killed in violence that broke out in Bangladesh's south-eastern port city of Chittagong following his arrest. After Das was denied bail, his lawyers immediately filed a revision petition seeking a retrial but no hearing took place that day.
