After the overthrow of Sheikh Hasina government, fundamentalism is becoming dominant in Bangladesh. The head of the interim government of Bangladesh, Muhammad Yunus, is taking decisions one after the other which are against the basic spirit of Bangladesh at the time of its establishment. At the same time, there is now a possibility that Bangladesh may also declare itself an Islamic country. Bangladesh's top law officer has proposed that the words secular and socialist be removed from the country's constitution.
Demand to remove these things from the Constitution
Bangladesh Attorney General Mohammad Aszaman has made several arguments in the court during the hearing on a writ petition. The Attorney General has sought to remove two of the four principles of the Constitution of Bangladesh, namely secularism and socialism. Along with this, a demand has also been made to abolish the status of Father of the Nation of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Apart from this, a demand was made to make provision for death penalty for changing the government through extra-constitutional means.
Challenge to the validity of the constitutional amendment
In the writ petition filed in the Bangladeshi court, the validity of the 15th amendment of the Constitution made by the then Sheikh Hasina government in 2011 has been challenged. This amendment included decisions to restore secularism, abolish the system of interim government to monitor elections, assume power through extra-constitutional means and give Sheikh Mujibur Rahman the status of Father of the Nation. It has been argued in the court that Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was the leader of Bangladesh. However, the Awami League Party has politicized him in its own interest.
Court seeks response from interim government
A bench of two judges of the High Court of Bangladesh has issued a rule and asked the government of Mohammad Yunus to explain its stand in this matter. Let us tell you that on August 5, Sheikh Hasina's Awami League government was overthrown in Bangladesh amid student demonstrations and large-scale violence.
