Nightmare at Mumbai airport: passengers stranded on their way to Doha, including children

A flyer said they were not given food or water.

Bombay:

An IndiGo flight from Mumbai to Doha, Qatar, has been delayed as passengers were forced to wait inside the aircraft for nearly five hours. Passengers say they were eventually asked to disembark from the plane (which was scheduled to take off at 3:55 am) and were taken to the immigration waiting area at Mumbai airport due to a “technical issue” with the aircraft.

Between 250 and 300 passengers are reported to be stranded at the airport.

“We were not allowed to get off the plane because immigration control had ended,” a passenger flying with his wife and a child told Agency.

“They allowed us to wait in a holding area after we confronted them. No officers spoke to us,” he said.

Another flyer said they were not given food or water.

“It's chaos here. People are worried that their jobs are in danger. Passengers are waiting with their children,” he said.

There was no official statement from IndiGo. However, the airline did respond to a user on X, who claimed that the flight to Doha was “blocked” at Mumbai airport due to a “technical issue.”

“The immigration authority is not giving permission for passengers to disembark,” the flyer wrote on X, to which the airline said it “sincerely regrets the inconvenience.”

Passengers on a SpiceJet flight from Delhi to Darbhanga in Bihar had a heated exchange with airline officials on Saturday morning after the airline allegedly cancelled the flight five minutes before boarding. They were waiting to board SpiceJet flight no SG 495.

Some of the passengers who have been flying on the Delhi-Darbhanga route claimed that the airline has been cancelling flights on this route frequently for the past few months.
