National Security Advisor Ajit Doval to visit Moscow for BRICS conference and peace talks

NEW DELHI: National Security Adviser Ajit Doval will travel to Moscow this week where he will participate in the conference of national security advisers of the BRICS group. Doval will reportedly visit Moscow on Tuesday and Wednesday and may convey India's views, ideas and suggestions on how to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict during his talks with the Russian leadership.

New Delhi had earlier said it would offer all-out support for peaceful resolution of the standoff that has been raging for over two-and-a-half years between the two neighbours. The decision comes ahead of the BRICS summit to be held next month in the Russian city of Kazan, which is likely to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Modi had visited Moscow on a bilateral visit last July. He also visited Ukraine last month.

Amid renewed push for peace talks between Moscow and kyiv to end the conflict, Russian President Vladimir Putin was recently quoted by Russian news agency TASS as saying: “We (Russia) respect our friends and partners who, I believe, sincerely seek to resolve all issues related to this conflict, primarily China, Brazil and India. I am constantly in touch with our colleagues on this issue.”

Following that phone call, Russia said Modi had briefed Putin “on his recent visit to kyiv (the Ukrainian capital), stressing his interest in contributing to a possible political and diplomatic solution to the situation in Ukraine.”
