Karnataka: 3 dead, 4 injured in accident during temple festival

Vijayapura: Three people were killed and four others injured in an accident near Kuntoji village of Muddebihal Taluk, about 80 km from the district headquarters, around midnight on Thursday.

The incident occurred on the Muddebihal-Talikoti state highway at around 11.30 pm when a speeding motorcycle mowed down a group of pedestrians who were attending the Basaveshwara Jatre, the temple festival.

The religious and cultural events of the event attracted a large number of villagers.

Police told Deccan Chronicle that Ningaraj, who was riding the motorcycle with Anil as pillion passenger, lost control and collided with 6-7 pedestrians.

As a result, Ningaraj, Anil and pedestrian Uday Kumar were killed. Several others were injured and one person is in critical condition and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bagalkot.

A case has been registered and further investigations are underway.

Previously, there were rumors that the incident was caused by reckless driving, but the police confirmed that the actual cause was reckless driving.
