India overtakes China for the second consecutive year in QS Asia University Rankings 2025


New Delhi . India has overtaken China in the QS Asia University Rankings 2025 for the second consecutive year, indicating rapid improvement in the country's higher education.

193 higher educational institutions of India have been included in this list. The country has shown the largest increase in university representation. 21 new entries have also been added to this list.

According to the latest annual list of Asia's best universities released by global higher education analyst Quacquarelli Symonds, India is followed by China with 135 universities and Japan with 115 universities at second and third place respectively.

India had overtaken China in the 2024 QS rankings with 148 universities. Last year, only 133 educational institutions of China were included in this list.

The 2025 edition features 984 universities across 25 higher education systems in Asia. This is 127 more than last year.

About seven Indian universities are included in the top 100 institutions of Asia.

IIT Delhi (IITD) remained at the top position, followed by IIT Bombay which slipped to second position.

Other names include Delhi University, IISc Bangalore, IIT Madras, IIT Kharagpur and IIT Kanpur.

“India's academic prowess is reflected in its research output and high numbers of PhDtrained faculty who enhance the international reputation of its universities while setting a benchmark on the regional and global stage,” Jessica Turner, CEO of QS, said in a statement. Are.”

Indian universities got 75 percent marks in academic reputation, while it was 73 percent in employer reputation.

The report revealed that research productivity is a major strength of Indian universities. In 'Faculty on Papers', four of the top five universities in Asia are Indian, while Anna University is at the second position.

Furthermore, Indian universities also showed a high level of staff expertise, with eight universities ranking second in 'employees with PhDs'.

However, the country did not perform well in the internationalization indicators 'International Students'. Amity University was ranked 87th in this list, while no other Indian institute could make it to the top 100.
