Norton Motorcycles will 'Make in India' from 2025, bikes may become cheaper

New Delhi. British motorcycle brand Norton, owned by TVS Motor, has announced that it will start manufacturing motorcycles in India from 2025. Under this, there is a plan to launch six new motorcycles in the next three years, which will be produced at the Hosur plant in Tamil Nadu, India.

According to TVS Motor Managing Director Sudarshan Venu, the manufacture of Norton will leverage Indian manufacturing and supply chain. TVS aims to launch its first new Norton product in 2025, and production will begin at the Hosur plant by the end of next year. Production will also continue at Norton's new facilities in Solihull, UK, but TVS Hosur facilities will also be fully utilised.

According to Sudarshan Venu, “We believe high quality manufacturing is TVS's strength. So we will make full use of this capability for Norton. However, Norton's bikes will be uniquely Norton, with European design, marketing, and engineering.” Norton won't be the only premium European brand manufacturing in India; brands like Triumph and Ducati also make their products in Thailand.

TVS collaboration and future plans

TVS already manufactures products for BMW Motorrad at its Hosur plant, including the 310cc platform and the new CE 02 electric scooter. Exports of these products have already begun at the end of FY2024.
At the moment, little information is available about the segment of the new Norton motorcycles, but the Managing Director of TVS Motor Company has made it clear that Norton will remain a premium brand. The price of locally manufactured motorcycles in the Indian market may be relatively cheaper than imported bikes.
