New Delhi . Maruti Suzuki India on Tuesday announced that the company has sold 20 lakh vehicles for the first time in a calendar year.
Maruti Suzuki India became the first among automobile major Suzuki Motor Corporation's global automobile manufacturing facilities to reach this milestone. Of the 20 lakh vehicles, about 60 percent are made in Haryana and 40 percent in Gujarat.
Hisashi Takeuchi, CEO and Managing Director, Maruti Suzuki India, said, “Reaching the production figure of 2 million units showcases India's manufacturing potential and reflects our commitment to the 'Make in India' initiative.”
“This achievement reflects our commitment to work together with our supplier and dealer partners to drive economic growth, support nation building and make India's automobile industry selfreliant and globally competitive,” Takeuchi said.
Maruti Suzuki's share in total passenger vehicle exports from India is about 40 percent. The company exports 17 models to nearly 100 countries around the world.
Maruti Suzuki has three manufacturing plants in India, two of which are in Haryana (Gurugram and Manesar) and Gujarat (Hansalpur).
The combined annual production capacity of these three manufacturing plants is 23.5 lakh units.
The company plans to increase its production capacity to 40 lakh units. For this, the company is setting up a greenfield manufacturing facility in Kharkhoda, Haryana.
The company said construction work at the Kharkhoda site is progressing as per plan and the first plant with an annual capacity of 2.50 lakh units is expected to be commissioned in 2025.
The company said the Kharkhoda facility will have a capacity of 1 lakh units per annum once fully operational.
