New Delhi. Due to the favorable policies of the central government, the manufacturing of luxury vehicles is increasing rapidly in the country, due to which investment in India’s auto sector is also increasing.
The recently launched EQS SUV from German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz will also be produced in India. After the US, India is the second country where this luxury electric SUV will be assembled. The price of this luxury EV is Rs 1.41 crore.
According to reports, the EQS sedan is already being manufactured in India by Mercedes-Benz and around 500 units have been sold so far.
Mercedes-Benz will invest an additional Rs 200 crore in India in 2024 for manufacturing operations, new products and digitisation of manufacturing.
Speaking on the production of the EQS SUV in India, Santosh Iyer, MD and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, said, “This reflects our local expertise. It will create value for Indian customers and support the government’s vision of ‘Make in India’.”
In May this year, Tata Group-owned Jaguar Land-Rover (JLR) announced that it would begin assembling its flagship models Range Rover and Range Rover Sports in India for the first time. This will significantly reduce prices.
Currently, Range Rover Velar, Velar, Range Rover Evoque, Jaguar F-Pace and Discovery Sport models are being produced at the company’s Pune plant.
Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran said the local assembly of the flagship model is a turning point for the company’s Indian arm. It reflects the company’s confidence in the market.
