New Delhi . India's smartphone market is expected to end 2024 with singledigit annual growth. iPhone maker Apple has posted its biggest ever quarterly shipments in India with 4 million units in the third quarter, according to a new report.
According to the report, in the JulySeptember period, smartphone shipments in India reached 46 million units, registering a growth of 5.6 percent yearonyear.
Upasana Joshi, senior research manager, device research, IDC Asia Pacific, said, “The biggest quarter of the year saw this growth across online and offline channels due to attractive discounts, multiple financing options, extended device warranties and cashbackbank offers. “
The launch of several new 5G smartphones also boosted demand. He said the biggest attraction during the etailer's sale was the attractive discounts on last year's flagship models from Apple and Samsung.
Nearly 38 million 5G smartphones were shipped in the quarter. The share of 5G smartphone shipments increased to 83 percent from 57 percent in the third quarter of last year.
Shipments on online channels grew by 8 percent and its share increased to 51 percent in the third quarter from 50 percent in the same period last year.
Apple emerged as the secondlargest player in the online channel, with the iPhone 15 and iPhone 13 being the most shipped devices.
Shipments on offline channels also grew by 3 per cent in Q3 2024, with brands increasing attractive channel schemes and offers for both channels, the report said.
Overall, Vivo maintained its third consecutive quarter of growth, led by the affordable Y series and the recently launched T3 and V40 series.
OPPO recorded the highest growth among the top 5 brands due to affordable new launches like A3XK12X and Reno 12 series.
Nothing recorded the highest growth after Motorola and iQOO.
