New Delhi . The Indian smartphone market is set for robust growth in 2025, industry experts said on Friday. India's smartphone market is estimated to grow by 6 percent YoY with government initiatives aimed at improving consumer sentiment and reducing unemployment.
Mobile phone production increased from Rs 18,900 crore in 201415 to an estimated Rs 4.10 lakh crore in FY2024, registering a massive growth of 2,000 per cent due to the production linked incentive (PLI) scheme.
According to a latest report by Counterpoint Research, India's smartphone market has emerged as the second largest globally by unit volume and third largest by value in the third quarter of 2024.
Smartphone volumes grew by 3 per cent in the third quarter (JulySeptember) of 2024, while its value reached an alltime record for a quarter with a robust 12 per cent growth.
According to Tarun Pathak, research director, mobile devices and ecosystem at Counterpoint Research, the ongoing premiumization trend is becoming key in driving this growth, reflecting consumer aspirations for highquality, featurerich devices.
Brands are likely to focus their attention on the premium segment.
Additionally, Pathak told , “Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) are expected to launch multiple models in the entrylevel market with the launch of 5G smartphones priced under Rs 10,000 in 2025.”
Many OEMs are recognizing the growth potential in this segment and are expected to launch more 5Genabled devices to capitalize on this opportunity.
Premium demand is also increasing in Tier3 and Tier4 cities.
Cyber Media Research (CMR) has pointed to strong growth momentum for 5G and AI smartphones in the country, which will grow by 21 percent yearonyear in 2025.
“Chinese smartphone brands will focus on bringing AI capabilities, especially in the lowend smartphone segment,” Prabhu Ram, VPIndustry Research Group, CMR, told .
The country's electronics exports also increased by 27.4 percent to $22.5 billion in AprilNovember of financial year 202425 from $17.66 billion during the same period of 202324.
In the electronics sector, smartphone exports have recorded a growth of 45 per cent as major companies like Apple and Samsung are increasing production in the country.
November this year saw record smartphone exports in the country, crossing the Rs 20,000 crore mark in a month for the first time, led by Apple.
