Popal said the mobile model used to be about “there’s an app for that,” but as the number of apps skyrocketed, there was a greater burden of effort on users. In theory, he argued, on-device AI could change that.
“AI-generation smartphones will completely change the way we interact with our phones,” he said. “Whether it’s processing a refund, buying a ticket, booking a hotel or making sure it’s the best deal, they’ll make human suggestions like, ‘If you move that date one day, you’ll save $500.’”
But lest buyers get too excited, these capabilities may take years to appear as software vendors will have to adapt to new APIs and wait for their customers to buy AI-enabled phones.
