In that sense, Rune Labs’ announcement could foreshadow future health-related services that combine genAI with the vast amount of personal data that Apple’s ecosystem already collects.
What's going on in Apple's R&D?
Apple CEO Tim Cook has frequently stated that Apple will ultimately be remembered for the work it's doing in healthcare. Given that the entire company is now hard at work implementing AI into everything, it's unlikely that its healthcare teams aren't at least trying to set aside some internal R&D time to explore how it can be applied in that sector.
If Rune Labs' solution actually lives up to its promises, Apple's healthcare teams will at least have an argument to justify that investment. But Apple aside, tools like these that enable better patient care and foster personal autonomy are some of the strengths of a technology that many fear could be a dystopian end of the century.
