Demand for Kia's electric vehicles increased in America, sales doubled in JanuaryJuly period

Seoul. South Korean carmaker Kia's electric vehicle sales have increased. According to information, electric vehicle sales in the US have doubled between January and July this year compared to last year.

Data released on Monday showed that electric vehicle sales increased due to strong demand for the company's EV9 SUV model.

Kia EV sales in the US totaled 33,957 units during the first seven months of 2024, up from 16,941 units last year, Yonhap news agency reported, citing data from the Korea Automobile & Mobility Association.

The surge in Kia EV sales in the US has surprised the industry. Overall segment growth in the US during the sevenmonth period has grown by just 0.9 per cent, from 638,716 to 644,752 units.

Industry experts believe that the growing demand for the EV9 SUV model is a major reason behind the growth of Kia's electric vehicles in the US market. From January to July, 11,486 units of EV9 were sold in the country, which is 34 percent of Kia's total EV sales. Thanks to Kia's performance, Hyundai Motor Group has maintained a doubledigit market share in the US EV market.

The group's market share from January to July reached 11.1 percent, the largest for such a period in the group's history.
