According to OpenAI, the upcoming update to the model will perform similarly to PhD students on challenging benchmark tasks in physics, chemistry, and biology, and even excel at math and coding.
“In a qualifying exam for the International Mathematical Olympiad (IOM), GPT-4o students solved only 13% of problems correctly, while the reasoning model scored 83%. Their coding skills were tested in contests and they reached the 89th percentile in Codeforces competitions,” he added.
The reasoning capabilities within OpenAI o1 models are expected to help tackle complex problems in the fields of science, coding, mathematics, and more, according to OpenAI.
