According to Bleeping Computer, when Microsoft Office 2024 is released in October, ActiveX will be disabled by default. The change affects desktop versions of Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Visio, and will be applied to Microsoft 365 starting in April 2025.
The reason for this measure: In recent years, hackers have used various vulnerabilities in ActiveX to install malicious code on computers.
Released in 1996, ActiveX is a framework used to integrate interactive elements into Office documents.
