New Delhi . Car sales in India were tremendous in the last month of the year. Market leading company Maruti Suzuki India registered a 30 percent jump in sales in December 2024, crossing the figure of 1,78,248 units, whereas in the same month last year this figure was 1,37,551 units.
Maruti Suzuki's rival company Hyundai, SUV maker Mahindra & Mahindra and Kia Motors also sold a lot of cars.
Maruti Suzuki's total domestic sales in December, which include light commercial vehicles and supplies to Toyota Kirloskar Motor, stood at 1,32,523 units, or 24.44 per cent, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) said in a regulatory filing. In the same month last year, this figure was 1,06,492 units.
Total domestic passenger vehicle (PV) sales in December 2024 stood at 1,30,117 units, compared to 1,04,778 units in the same month a year ago, which is 24.18 percent higher.
Sales of mini cars Alto and SPresso increased to 7,418 units in the month, compared to 2,557 units in the same period a year ago.
Similarly, sales of compact cars like Baleno, Celerio, Dezire, Ignis, Swift and WagonR increased from 45,741 units to 54,906 units in December 2023.
The company said its SUVs, including Brezza, Ertiga, FrontX, Grand Vitara, Invicto, Jimny and XL6, recorded sales of 55,651 units in December 2024, compared to 45,957 units in the same month last year.
MSI said its exports in December stood at 37,419 units, compared to 26,884 units in the same month a year ago.
Similarly, automaker Kia India reported a 6 percent growth in total sales in 2024 at 2,55,038 units compared to last year, which is the highest annual sales ever.
Kia India said in a statement that the company had sold 2,40,919 units in 2023.
Hardeep Singh Brar, Senior Vice President and Head of Sales and Marketing, Kia India, said, “As we enter 2025, we are excited about the upcoming launch of the Sciros, which promises to redefine the Indian automotive landscape. Is.”
Hyundai Motor India Ltd said the company has recorded its highestever annual domestic sales of 6,05,433 units in 2024.
The company achieved total sales of 7,64,119 units (including domestic and exports) last year.
In the month of December, HMIL reported total monthly sales of 55,078 units (42,208 units domestic and 12,870 units exports).
According to Tarun Garg, Wholetime Director and Chief Operating Officer, HMIL, despite the massive challenges the industry faced, the company managed to maintain the sales momentum in 2024.
Achieving the highest ever annual domestic sales of 1,86,919 units, the Hyundai Creta model continued to consolidate the company's position as the SUV leader.
“We are confident that the upcoming Creta Electric will further enhance the appeal of this undeniable, ultimate SUV,” Garg said.
Meanwhile, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd said its total auto sales in December stood at 69,768 vehicles, a growth of 16 per cent including exports.
In the sports utility vehicle (SUV) segment, Mahindra sold 41,424 units in the domestic market, a growth of 18 per cent and overall sold 42,958 vehicles including exports. Domestic sales of commercial vehicles stood at 19,502.
