20 percent IT decision makers face trouble finding AI and machine learning talent: Report

New Delhi . In this age of Artificial Intelligence (AI), one in five IT decision makers struggle to find AI and machine learning talent.

The latest report highlights a major shortage of talent related to advanced skills like AI and machine learning.

A report by transformative learning experience platform SkillSoft revealed that IT decision makers are also facing difficulties in hiring for roles like cybersecurity and information security.

According to the report, AIML remains the top investment priority for IT decision makers as they rank this 'skill set' lowest among team members out of nearly 30 competencies.

The annual report, based on over 5,100 global IT decisionmakers and professionals, examines the state of the IT industry and highlights the growing need for upskilling and reskilling the workforce to keep pace with technological advancements.

Nearly 65 percent of IT decision makers said their teams have skills shortages, while 72 percent plan to address them by training existing talent.

Orla Daly, Chief Information Officer at SkillSoft, said, “This year has shown that when it comes to the technology industry, there is a need for change and constant adaptation. Our report highlights current organizational priorities and skills needs. The report explores how leaders and individuals can embrace learning opportunities to drive better business results.”

Daly added, “As AI technology is increasingly being used in the workplace, the demand for cybersecurity talent and leadership skills is increasing. It is more important than ever that organizations take a proactive approach to skill building. This includes not only investing in holistic training programs but also fostering continuous learning and innovation with opportunities to put new skills into practice.”

The report shows large differences in the effectiveness of skills programmes. Nearly a quarter (22 percent) of IT decision makers expressed dissatisfaction with their organization's talent development initiatives.

The report suggests that IT professionals find inperson and instructorled sessions more effective. This is followed by the likes of online, inperson training, and onlineinstructorled options, reflecting the need for customized training methods.
