New Delhi . The mini auction of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 season will take place on December 15 in Bengaluru. England captain Heather Knight, New Zealand fast bowler Lia Tahuhu, West Indies allrounder Dryandra Dottin will be some of the big international names in the mini auction. The Indians will include Sneh Rana, leg spinner Poonam Yadav and batsman Veda Krishnamurthy. All five franchises will have a budget of Rs 15 crore to build the team, last time the budget was Rs 13.5 crore.
Runnerup Delhi Capitals for the 2023 and 2024 seasons is captained by Meg Lanning and has the smallest budget of Rs 2.5 crore. Whereas Gujarat Giants, who have finished at the bottom in the last two seasons, have the highest purse of Rs 4.4 crore. They have dropped seven players from their team and are looking to form a new team.
Reigning champions Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), who have India vicecaptain Smriti Mandhana and New Zealand's T20 World Cupwinning captain Sophie Devine, have also released seven players. RCB has a budget of Rs 3.25 crore.
Danny Wyatt was the only player to be transferred in the preseason trade window in early November, where RCB acquired him from UP Warriors (UPW) in a cash trade. Wyatt did not play a single match last year for UPW, which finished fourth last season.
The entire first WPL season was played in Mumbai. While the second season was played in Bengaluru and Delhi. BCCI is keen to take this model forward by adding new venues gradually. At the same time, the board also wants to bring home and away formats.
In the third season, five teams will play over three weeks between February and March 2025, while in 2026 the tournament will be held in January and February.
