quota. Vardhaman Mahavir Open University (VMOU) has hosted the women's football tournament for the first time in its 37year history. The Western Region Inter University Women's Football Competition organized at Nayapura Umed Singh Stadium was inaugurated by Dr. Manju Baghmar, Minister of State for Public Works, by hoisting the flag. On this occasion, MLA Kalpana Devi and University Vice Chancellor Prof. Kailash Sodani was also present.
A total of 900 women players from 45 teams from five states – Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan are participating in this tournament. Dr. Baghmar termed this event as a historic moment for Vardhaman Mahavir Open University and congratulated all the players. She called it a big challenge and expressed hope that this event will give a new direction to women's sports.
The tournament will be held from December 7 to 11 across three major stadiums – Maharao Umed Singh Stadium, Vijayveer Club Kunhadi, and Srinathpuram Stadium. Vice Chancellor Prof. Kailash Sodani said that this is the first time that the university has organized a sports activity, and it will also promote tourism in Kota, as the players will get an opportunity to visit the major tourist places of the city.
