New Delhi . Suspense continues regarding the venue and schedule of Champions Trophy 2025. The important meeting of the ICC Governing Board on Friday could not reach any decision. Members will meet again in the next few days to end the impasse over the eightteam tournament.
The ICC board meeting on Friday was held online and is understood to have been attended by all 15 board members (12 full member representatives and directors from the three associate nations), along with CEO Geoff Allardyce and chairman Greg Barclay.
Sources told that the ICC board held a brief meeting on Friday, but no decision could be taken. He also said that all the concerned parties are working towards finding a right choice for the Champions Trophy. According to the information, the board will meet again in the next few days.
The Champions Trophy is to be played from 19 February to 9 March. But BCCI was not ready to send Team India to tour Pakistan. The board argued behind this that it had not received the consent of the Indian government to go to Pakistan and play the match. After this the suspense regarding the tournament increased.
Pakistan has the right to host the Champions Trophy 2025. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is in favor of organizing this tournament completely in Pakistan. After India refused to come to Pakistan, the hybrid model is emerging as a possible option to play this 15match tournament.
Last year, Pakistan hosted the men's 50over Asia Cup in a hybrid model after India refused to travel to Pakistan.
India played all its matches of the tournament in Colombo, including the semifinals and the final, which it won.
Eight teams will participate in the Champions Trophy, out of which four teams are divided into two groups. The top two teams of both the groups will play in the semifinals, followed by the title match.
