New Delhi. Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has strongly denied articles being written in his name on a cricket website and threatened legal action against those responsible. Website Cricket Sensation on Friday evening published a column titled “A new era in leadership: Bumrah's captaincy and Kohli's leadership revive Team India”, falsely claiming that it was written by the former captain.
Gavaskar addressed the issue on Instagram on Saturday, sharing a video in which he clarified that he had no connection with the article and demanded its immediate removal. The cricket legend also asked the website to publicly apologise, warning that failure to do so would lead to legal action.
In the video, Gavaskar said: “Hi, I am Sunil Gavaskar, and I would like to say that there is a website called Cricket Sensation, which has published an article in my name. I must say that it is completely fake. I did something like this. And I would like to ask that website to be immediately removed, if you do not do so, I will refer the matter to my legal team. don't believe a word Do it. This is a completely fake article written in my name.”
Gavaskar also urged fans to be vigilant about misinformation online, writing in the caption of his Instagram post, “Never believe everything you see on the internet #alwaysverify”.
The controversy arose during the first BorderGavaskar Trophy Test at the Perth Stadium, where India performed brilliantly under standin captain Jasprit Bumrah.
Thanks to Bumrah's brilliant performance of 530, India scored 84 runs without losing any wicket till tea after bowling out Australia for 104 runs in the first Test. It was also Australia's third lowest total in home Tests since 2000.
