Shakib Al Hasan becomes the oldest Bangladeshi Test cricketer

Chennai. The first match of the twomatch Test series between India and Bangladesh is looking exciting. The bowlers of both the teams are getting a lot of help from the pitch, but the Indian batsmen also showed their strength and kept a strong hold on the match. Meanwhile, a special record was registered in the name of Shakib Al Hasan.

On Saturday, veteran allrounder Shakib Al Hasan etched his name in Bangladesh cricket history as he became the oldest player from his country to play a Test match.

At the age of 37 years and 181 days, Shakib took the field on the third day of Bangladesh's first Test against India in Chennai, breaking the previous record of leftarm spinner Mohammad Rafiq, who last played a Test match in 2008 at the age of 37 years and 180 days.

Shakib, who has played a vital role in Bangladesh cricket for more than a decade, has taken his illustrious career further with this new achievement.

Considered as one of the best allrounders of the game, Shakib has been playing for a long time and his contribution to the team has left a huge mark on the cricketing fraternity.

While Shakib's achievement is significant, the world record for the oldest Test cricketer is held by England's Wilfred Rhodes, who played his last Test in 1930 at the age of 52 years and 165 days.

Rhodes' record, as well as his remarkable 30year Test career, is one of cricket's longestlasting achievements.

However, on the field, Bangladesh found themselves in a difficult position against a strong Indian team. With Shubman Gill scoring his seventh Test halfcentury on day three and Rishabh Pant heading towards his 12th halfcentury, India are in a strong position.

Earlier on the second day, Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah wreaked havoc on the Bangladesh batting lineup, taking 4 wickets for 50 runs as the visitors were bundled out for just 149 runs in the first innings.

Bangladesh struggled to respond well to India's strong first innings score despite efforts from experienced players like Shakib (32) and wicketkeeperbatsman Liton Das (22).
