Sehwag praises son Aryaveer for scoring 297 runs in Cooch Behar Trophy

New Delhi . Former India opener Virender Sehwag on Friday praised his son Aryaveer Sehwag, who scored 297 runs while playing for Delhi against Meghalaya in the Under19 Men's Cooch Behar Trophy Elite Group A match at the MCA Ground in Polo, Shillong.

Sehwag wrote on “Go play…”

During his marathon innings of 297 runs, Kishore hit 51 fours and three sixes to take Delhi to a huge score before declaring the first innings at 6235.

Meghalaya, who came to bat first, scored 260 runs in its first innings. In reply, Delhi's openers Aryaveer and Arnav Bugga added 180 runs for the first wicket, while later Aryaveer was out after scoring 114 runs in 108 balls with the help of 19 fours and three sixes. Wicketkeeperbatsman Vansh Jaitley added 43 runs, followed by Dhanya Nakra and Aryaveer to take the innings forward and take a lead of 208 runs to reach 4682 at the end of play on Thursday.

Meghalaya captain Dipankar Barua tried various bowling combinations to contain Delhi's pace, but the visitors took full advantage of the flat pitch. After crossing Meghalaya's first innings score of 260, Delhi strengthened its position with a brilliant 188run partnership between Aryaveer and Dhanya for the third wicket, which further increased the troubles for the hosts.

Earlier in the day, Meghalaya resumed their innings at 2397, but could only add 21 more runs. Kshitij Singhania, who was unbeaten on 52 overnight, was out for 62, but Udhav Mohan crossed the figures of 488. Angkit Tamang added seven more runs to his night's score of 29 before being dismissed. Aryaveer made his debut in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy in October, scoring 49 against Manipur to help Delhi win by six wickets.

“My son is 15 years old and is already working hard to get a chance to play in the IPL,” Virender Sehwag said on Star Sports. “IPL has benefited the young talent the most. Earlier, Ranji Trophy performances went unnoticed and hence they were not able to make it to the Indian team. But now, if you perform well in the IPL and your If you show talent, you immediately get a chance to play for the Indian team.

He said, “Because of IPL, many children from small states of the country have started taking cricket seriously and work hard to participate in the IPL.”
