Dubai, . All 10 teams are busy preparing for IPL 2025. The last few seasons have not been very good for Punjab Kings. However, this time the team is going to be seen in a new rhythm. The reason for this is the change in the team which started with the newly appointed head coach Ricky Ponting.
Many strategic changes have been made in the team before IPL 2025. This also includes the appointment of a new coach.
Ponting's vision for Punjab Kings with the recent announcement of the IPL retention list signals a change as the franchise is set to take a new and different path. The team retained only two uncapped players – Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh. Whereas, chose the option to release star players like South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada, England's Sam Curran and Indian fast Arshdeep Singh.
Speaking to ICC Review, Ponting said, “I'm most excited about a new, fresh start. It starts with the retention list.”
He further said that the team has the biggest auction amount, which is important for building an ambitious and strong team.
After several years of struggle with the franchise failing to make the playoffs since 2014, Ponting is determined to revamp the Punjab Kings both on and off the field.
While acknowledging the franchise's past, Ponting stressed his desire for a fresh start and talked about creating a new environment in the team.
He said, “The main and most important thing for me is to make this entire franchise different. To make it stronger and bring results on the field. I want us to leave our mark in the IPL.
