New Delhi, . Former Australian cricketer Tom Moody feels that after a poor performance in the IPL 2024 season, Punjab Kings will be in need of rights for Arshdeep Singh, Jitesh Sharma, Sam Curran and Kagiso Rabada ahead of the mega auction for the next season of the league later this year. To Match (RTM) option will be used.
IPL franchises can retain a total of six players from their existing team. This can be done either through retention or through the right to match option.
The six retentionsRTMs can have a maximum of five capped players (Indian and overseas) and a maximum of two uncapped players. The auction purse for franchises for IPL 2025 has been set at Rs 120 crore. The last date for franchisees to finalize their retention list is October 31.
Speaking to Star Sports about possible IPL retentions for Punjab Kings, Moody said, “For Punjab Kings I don't think I will retain any players, certainly not capped players but I would like to retain Arshdeep Singh, Sam Would like to use the right to match option for players like Curran and Rabada. Jitesh Sharma is another player for whom I would consider using the right to match in the auction.”
He identified uncapped Shashank Singh and Harpreet Brar as Punjab's probable retentions, which would complete his list of six players. Shashank was the leading runscorer for the franchise last season with 354 runs at a strike rate of 164.65, which included two halfcenturies. Harpreet, on the other hand, took seven wickets in 13 matches.
The former Australian batsman said, “When it comes to uncapped players, there are some good players who I would like to include in the squad before the auction. Shashank Singh, who is a brilliant middleorder power hitter while Harpreet Brar is a leftarm spinner. “
Punjab Kings finished second from last in the 2024 edition. He won five matches and lost nine. They would be hoping to make changes to their squad through the player auction ahead of the upcoming edition of the IPL.
