Pune . Indian captain Rohit Sharma, dejected after losing the second Test to New Zealand by 113 runs and trailing 02 in the match, on Saturday said that the team's batting was not satisfactory and this was the biggest reason for the team's defeat.
Rohit said in the presentation after the match, “This defeat is disappointing, we did not expect this.” We have to give credit to New Zealand because they played better cricket than us. Whereas we could not capitalize on the opportunities. Our batting has not been satisfactory, it is important to take 20 wickets to win a Test match but it is equally important to score runs on the scoreboard.
The captain said, “We restricted New Zealand to a decent score but we could not live up to the expectations in the last innings.” It was good to restrict New Zealand to 259 in the first innings. Although the pitch was not that difficult, if we had batted well in the first innings then perhaps we would have been in a better position. This is a collective failure.”
Regarding the upcoming Australia tour, Rohit said, “We are not thinking ahead and our focus will be on winning the next Test match.”
