Johannesburg. Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced the appointment of Mandla Mashimbi as the new head coach of the South Africa women's team. He will replace Dylan du Preez, who as interim coach took the team to the final in the Women's T20 World Cup this year. Before this, Hilton Moreng had been the head coach of the team for a decade.
Mashimbi said in a statement, “I accept the appointment as coach of the Proteas women's team with great respect. I am fully aware of the significant responsibilities and expectations associated with this prestigious position. I will look forward to my tenure as coach. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity I have received from Titans Cricket over the past 11 years and I am committed to the continued success of the Proteas Women and their status as a force to be reckoned with in world cricket. Am.”
Mashimbi has played professional cricket for the Titans, Knights and Griquas. However, his playing career ended early in 2010 due to persistent knee injuries. As a fast bowler, he took 103 wickets in 39 firstclass matches representing the Titans and Northerns, while also having a batting average of over 20.
During his tenure at Centurion, he participated in 44 ODI matches. He played a key role in Northerns' victories in the threeday and oneday competitions during the 200506 season and captained the team to victory in the CSA OneDay Challenge in 200910.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) said Mashimbi's strong confluence of leadership, communication and motivational skills as well as her process, approach as well as commitment to player and team development will allow her to create a winning culture for the Proteas women's team. Which is currently playing a home multiformat series against England.
