New Delhi . Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are gearing up for IPL 2025 by keeping their core team intact. Nicholas Pooran, Mayank Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi are the three players who have been retained by the franchise.
A source close to the matter told that Puran will be the frontrunner to take charge of the team in IPL 2025. Lucknow may decide not to retain KL Rahul, although in such a situation they will also have the option of a Right to Match card in the auction.
A source close to the franchise told , “The franchise is ready to show its confidence in Puran. He captained the side last year too and he also has the experience of leading the national team. So we can trust him.” Apart from them, we can also retain fast bowlers Mayank Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi.
In the last few seasons, explosive batsman and wicketkeeper Puran emerged as a star for Lucknow. After joining the team in 2023 for Rs 16 crore, he joined the list of highest paid players in the league. He showcased his powerhitting ability and leadership skills during Rahul's absence last season.
The 29yearold Puran has made a big mark for himself in the tournament since his IPL debut, from a mere Rs 30 lakh with Mumbai Indians in 2017 to now joining Lucknow for Rs 16 crore, his former franchise Sunrisers. It was after a fiercely contested and competitive bidding process against Hyderabad.
Mayank was bought by Lucknow for Rs 20 lakh in the 2022 mega auction. So far he has played a total of seven T20s including four IPL matches. In which he played three during the recent T20 series against Bangladesh.
Mayank is in the Center of Excellence recently opened by BCCI in Bengaluru and the reason behind this has not been confirmed.
Apart from these three players, the other two possible players could be young fast bowler Mohsin Khan and explosive middleorder batsman Ayush Badoni.
had earlier also reported that Lucknow captain KL Rahul may not be retained by the franchise this time, and is likely to be included in the mega auction, and now it looks like this report may soon be proven correct.
