New Delhi . Ivan Rodrigues, father of Indian women's cricket team batsman Jemimah Rodrigues, was accused of religious conversion. But this matter has taken a new turn. He has issued a statement clarifying his stand.
Ivan released a public statement on Instagram on Friday. In this he said that he is not involved in any such matter.
He said that these activities are a violation of the rules of the Gymkhana Club, and he is not involved in proselytizing in any way.
Ivan wrote in the statement, “We had availed the facilities of Khar Gymkhana for prayer meetings on several occasions over a period of one year from April 2023. However, this was done in accordance with the procedures of Khar Gymkhana and in the full knowledge of the office bearers “
He said, “Anyone could have come to these prayer meetings. The news of religious conversion being reported in the media is just a rumour. When we were asked to stop the meetings, we did so respectfully and with immediate effect.”
Ivan said, “We are honest, lawabiding people who are grateful that we can practice our religion without causing inconvenience to anyone else. It is disappointing to then be faced with false claims and misinformation We wish only the best for everyone and will continue to do so.”
Khar Gymkhana invited Jemimah Rodrigues to become a member and use its facilities in 2023.
