Is Shakib playing the Chennai Test despite being injured?

Chennai, . The possibility of bowling fewer overs in the Chennai Test and the possibility of injury have given rise to many questions about Shakib Al Hasan's playing in the match. There are speculations that Shakib is playing the Chennai Test despite being injured.

Shakib on Saturday became the oldest cricketer to play a Test for Bangladesh. Handed the ball by captain Nazmul Hasan Shanto, Shakib bowled seven overs on the third day and Rishabh Pant smashed four fours and two sixes off his bowling.

This was Shakib's most expensive bowling figures in his Test career. This was only the fifth time Shakib returned wicketless after bowling at least 20 overs in a Test. When Shanto kept Shakib away from bowling for a long time in the morning session on Saturday, former Indian spin bowler Murali Karthik told on air that Shakib had told him that he was having problems with the finger with which he bowls spin and with his shoulder.

Karthik said, “Since I know him for a long time, I went and asked him the reason for not bowling much. So he told me that the finger of his left hand with which he bowls has undergone surgery, it is swollen and there is no movement in it. As a spinner you should feel the finger but he is not feeling anything. Apart from this, he also has a problem in the shoulder and in such a situation, especially in Tests, it is difficult to bowl.”

Shakib had injured his left hand finger during the last ODI World Cup. Due to the shoulder injury, he could not play the match against India in the tournament. Due to the finger injury, he was out of the game for a few months and after this he also developed eye problems.

Tamim Iqbal said on air that if Shakib was selected in the squad despite knowing his injury then it meant Bangladesh were deliberately playing with one less spinner.

However, Bangladesh Cricket Board's chief physician Debashish said he was not aware of any alleged problem related to the finger or shoulder injury.

He said, “Shakib had a finger fracture before the World Cup, before that he had an infection due to another finger injury a few years ago. However, Shakib has not reported any recent finger or shoulder injury.”

Shakib has bowled 63.2 overs in the county last week. He left for England after the Pakistan tour and after playing county, he joined the Bangladesh team a day before the Chennai Test. Apart from not taking any wicket in the Chennai Test, he was out while playing reverse sweep in the first innings and was also seen experimenting with new things in his batting.
