India vs Bangladesh Test: Second day's play lost due to rain

Kanpur . Rain continues to wreak havoc in the second Test between India and Bangladesh and the second day's play on Saturday was completely washed away due to rain. Bangladesh had scored 107 runs by losing 3 wickets on the first day but after that they have not been able to start their innings further.

All three umpires came to talk to the curator and then the day's play was declared cancelled. Rain is forecast on the third day as well, although the weather is expected to remain clear in the second half of the day.

No cricket activity was possible on the second day of the second Test between India and Bangladesh in Kanpur due to persistent rain and wet outfield. The inclement weather and outfield conditions were so bad that the game was abandoned at 14:00 local time. It was the first time a oneday game in India was washed out due to rain since the Test in Bengaluru in 2015.

Today's events in Kanpur were not surprising considering the pregame forecast for the first three days. The weather allowed only 35 overs on the first day, with Bangladesh struggling in difficult conditions on an unpredictable pitch.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma had opted to bowl due to overcast conditions and possible moisture in the surface, which was proved correct by the early movement. However, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj were not at their best, and the hosts needed a double strike from Akash Deep to provide relief. Mominul Haq and Nazmul Shanto played strong innings for Bangladesh, but Shanto was dismissed by Ravichandran Ashwin.

If the 35 overs played on the first day were any indication, the second day was likely to be an exciting contest. Unfortunately, bad weather began robbing overs on the first day, and ruined all play on the second day.

Shanto scored 31 runs in 57 balls with the help of 6 fours. When the first day's play was declared over due to rain, Mominul Haq was at the crease after scoring 40 runs in 81 balls with the help of 7 fours and Mushfiqur Rahim was at the crease after scoring 6 runs in 13 balls.

For India, Akash Deep has taken 2 wickets for 34 runs and Ashwin has taken 1 wicket for 22 runs.

Brief scores: Bangladesh 1073 (Mominul Haq 40 not out, Nazmul Hossain Shanto 31; Akash Deep 234)
