Dubai . The New Zealand team has won the title of Women's T20 World Cup 2024. This team has become world champion for the first time by defeating South Africa in the final held in Dubai. After this historic victory, now Kiwi captain Sophie Devine has revealed the secret behind her success.
After New Zealand clinched their maiden Women's T20 World Cup title with a 32run win over South Africa, captain Sophie Devine said their impressive 58run win over India was the match that laid the foundation for their run to the trophy at the Dubai International Stadium .
New Zealand entered the tournament after losing 10 consecutive T20 matches, but performed above their potential to win the Women's T20 World Cup 2024.
After the victory in the final, New Zealand captain Sophie Devine said, “It is difficult to attribute our victory to any one match or one moment. Perhaps the victory against India in this tournament created a great platform for us. I believe that Our best performance after the World Cup in South Africa last year came against India and after defeating Team India, everything started going right. As I said, this team is full of commitment and confidence. We just had to show that we could make history.”
This was the third time for Sophie, before this she was also a part of the New Zealand team in 2009 and 2010 which was runnerup in the tournament.
With her second World Cup win after the 2000 Women's ODI World Cup in Dubai, Sophie hopes the victory on October 20 will inspire future generations to achieve greater heights.
