I was thinking about how to bat at that time: Jaiswal

Chennai: An unbeaten 195run partnership between Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja took India from 1446 to 3396 on the first day of the first Test against Bangladesh before Yashasvi Jaiswal's 56 played a key role in helping the hosts recover from early setbacks.

With the Chepauk pitch being difficult to bat on initially, lefthanded opener Jaiswal said he was contemplating on how to bat at that time. “I wouldn't say it was that difficult. I was just contemplating on how to bat on the wicket at that time. I was trying to enjoy batting on the wicket. The way I was leaving the ball was quite good for me, and I was really enjoying it,” Jaiswal said in a conversation with broadcasters ahead of the second day's play.

On the first day, the usually aggressive Jaiswal showed another aspect of his batting – living the game to the fullest. “I was just thinking about where I can score if I get the chance and I was just going for it. It all depends on my mindset, how I want to play and what my team needs. I always think about what is more important for my team. I think about that target and try to execute what I can.''

Jaiswal, who shared a 62run stand with Rishabh Pant for the fourth wicket, concluded by saying that the pitch was not easy to bat on on Day 1. “I don't think the pitch got easier towards the end of the day. It wasn't that easy, but I was just focusing on facing each ball and seeing it through carefully – that's what I was thinking at that moment.”
