Durban. T20 World Cup champion Team India is now on the way to prepare a new team for this format, as many senior players including Rohit Sharma have retired from this format. Meanwhile, wicketkeeper batsman Sanju Samson, who played a brilliant inning of 107 runs in the first match of the T20 series against South Africa in Durban, has grabbed a lot of headlines.
Sanju Samson, who was in and out of Team India for a long time, now seems to be cementing his place.
Since his T20 debut in 2015, Samson has batted at every position, but has not had much success. Since being promoted to open batting, Samson has found his rhythm by scoring centuries in 47 balls in Hyderabad and now Durban.
In Friday's game in Durban, Samson became the first Indian batsman and fourth batsman overall to score two consecutive centuries in men's T20. His innings included seven fours and 10 sixes, helping the visiting team win by 61 runs.
Samson said, “To be honest, there have been more failures than successes in my career. When you go through failures, you start doubting yourself. People obviously keep saying something or the other, social media definitely. It plays its role and then you start thinking about it too.”
He further said that it was like 'Sanju, aren't you made for the international level? You are performing well in IPL, why is it not happening in international (cricket)? I had many thoughts in my mind, but after so many years of experience, I know my capabilities.
Righthanded batsman Samson further said, “If I spend some time on the field, I know I have the ability to create shots against spin and fast bowlers. And I know I can contribute to the team's success.” I can help them win the match. I kept telling myself, 'No, it is not so.' There are a lot of downsides, but the positive side is also very good.”
